Past and Present Projects

Housing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

We assist families in obtaining housing via traditional and non-traditional channels.  One of our first projects, just 5 minutes from the University of Penn campus was a single-family three-bedroom home with a garage.

Working cooperatively with the family who resided in the property it was renovated and our organization issued a $60,000  7-year mortgage. The family is now in year 3 of the mortgage and the house is valued at approximately $200,000.

We provide transitional housing to individuals and small families.

We are always looking for more opportunities to create stable housing for our people.

Cooperative Restaurant

The Philadelphia cooperative restaurant is currently open and available for interested restaurateurs.

There are many barriers to starting a restaurant such as finding a space, purchasing equipment, getting the proper paperwork together. With the cooperative restaurant interested parties can come in and utilize a fully functional restaurant space to achieve their goals.

*Can you imagine confidently executing the deal that gets you the home you want, where you want it?

On this Retreat, through the study of real estate contracts from various states, you will get a comfortable familiarity with real estate contracts and terms.  Walk the six assorted properties purchased in the last year by Black Communities Action Committee, raw land, buildings, and tenant-occupied properties.  You will sharpen your business and research skills. Disconnecting from the anxiety associated with the unknown and inexperience becomes positively methodical and removes the limitations of emotion from the game.

*Ready to master the creation of passive income that will free you from dependence on stationary work?

On this Retreat, through discussion, brainstorming, and reflection you will deconstruct the myths around creating passive income. You will construct your plan to be executed over the next 12 months so you can step boldly into investment and entrepreneurship.

*Wouldn’t it be exciting to leave loneliness behind and engage more people in what you are building or hope to build?

On this Retreat, through group exercises, you will master the “enrollment conversation”,  a more effective and heartfelt version of the elevator speech.  Experience tours that highlight well-run municipalities, compare, contrast and discuss with other retreat participants the challenges you face at home, develop ideals outside the box for sharing solutions with those in your home communities.

*How amazing would it feel to create a community that looks and feels like gentrification without being gentrification?

On this Retreat, through hands-on activities, you will contribute your creativity and share in the asset management and investment duties for our real property portfolio and acquire skills needed to affect community development change in your home community. Learn the technical skills needed to affect and operate community savings and loans that can start to fund community members in less than 30 days.
